RED CORRAL — November 2, 2026. In communities along Amador County’s wooded foothill roads, planning for wildfire is about more than watching an incident map. CAL FIRE’s home-hardening guidance offers actions that households can check before fire weather arrives.
Protect points where embers enter
The state recommends clearing leaves and plant material out of roof gutters and considering noncombustible features around vulnerable building areas. Garage-door weather stripping and appropriate construction materials may reduce ember entry, but property-specific recommendations depend on the structure.
Keep access practical
CAL FIRE emphasizes clearly visible address numbers and access routes that emergency vehicles can use. Vegetation clearance along driveways, properly maintained gates and trimmed overhead growth can make a difference. Work on slopes, trees or utilities should be handled safely and in compliance with local requirements.
Pair the work with evacuation planning
Home improvement does not replace evacuation. Amador County advises people to register for emergency notices and be prepared to leave promptly when authorities warn of danger. Review defensible-space rules and contact qualified professionals where necessary.
